This week we will be focusing on finding your centre, being aware of it and identifying with it, so that when we dance Tango we can feel that our dance comes from our centre.
Can we identify where our partner is, where their centre is, and how we can dance together? First we want to find our own centre. Then we want to find the centre of our partner. Together, we want to start moving from our centres. Together, we want to keep dancing from our centres.
This Saturday 18th March, the programme is as follows:
1 – 1.45pm Tango Basics
We will start with a variety of exercises to help us refine our movements regarding finding your centre. Obviously in Tango, which is a walking dance, the quality of our walking has a huge impact on how we connect to our centre, to each other and to the music. So, we will start with a variety of walking exercises on our own, in pairs, and reversing roles. We will do this with different rhythms and speeds, including Tango, Vals and Milonga.
1.45 – 2.30pm Class on Dancing from your ‘Centre’ with your partner
Todays improvers class will move from the simple to the sophisticated, and will be suitable for more advanced dancers. This class is about you and your partner dancing Tango together. Making it up for yourselves, rather than just trying to imitate others. The emphasis will be on finding and using your centre to dance together.
Some clues where your centre is:
- It is usually at or close to your centre of gravity.
- It is in your middle.
- It is slightly different for men and women.
- It is usually in the middle of your vertical axis.
- It is not your brain or head.
- It is not your heart.
Definitely not in your feet, legs, hands or arms. But how you move all the different parts of your body is simultaneously an expression coming from your centre, and at the same time affects your centre. We will work on how we can remain connected with our centres, our partners and the music so that we can ‘play’.
2.30- 5pm Practica / Milonga
The classes will suit a wide range of abilities including beginners and experienced dancers. Please come on time to take full advantage of this opportunity. Doors open at 12.45pm
