This Saturday 29th June 2024 is our Crystal Anniversary Party, celebrating that Tango E14 has existed for over 15 years. Doors open at 12.40 pm, so be sure to come early to take full advantage at 1pm of our special guests, Los Ocampo teaching a class on Playful rhythms in tango.
From about 2.45pm Martin Espindola (bandoneon), Stewart Maclenahan (keys) and Patrick (violin) from Tango Terra will play a live tango music set!
Our usual Tango DJ Andy Warner will then take over and keep us dancing until 6pm!
Class on playful rhythms in tango and brief overview of Chacarera with Los Ocampo
The class will be on simple rhythms that you can play with and might include candombe rhythms. These are still tango rhythms and manageable for beginners. The class will be suitable for all levels. After 1 hr, there will be a 20 min short revision class on Chacarera. Then in the milonga we take the opportunity to dance Chacarera. Don’t be afraid to join in, it is not too difficult, and many people have done it before. You could describe it as a sort of Argentinean folk line dance.
About Los Ocampo
Los Ocampo are Mónica Romero and Omar Ocampo, a partnership of over 35 years made up of performing, teaching and sharing Argentine Tango and Folklore around the world. They have a rich dance background and began performing at an early age, meeting when they were dancers in the Carlos Copes tango company in Buenos Aires and later becoming a stage couple and marrying in 1984.
Los Ocampo divide their time between teaching at their schools around the world, touring widely and performing at prestigious international venues. They are also official adjudicators at the annual International Tango Championships in Argentina and other international competitions. They are often engaged as cultural and artistic ambassadors for Argentine music and dance. Los Ocampo are masters not only of Argentine Tango, but also of Argentina’s folkloric dances, such as Chacarera, Zamba and Malambo.
