Los Ocampo, the world-acclaimed Argentine tango artists and teachers, are back from last summer 2022. Tango E14 is proud to have them on Saturday 4th of March and 22nd of April teaching again. On Saturday 4th March the class will be on the 1930s or Golden Era Tango and a short reminder of Chacarera.
Los Ocampo are Mónica Romero and Omar Ocampo, a partnership of over 35 years made up of performing, teaching and sharing Argentine Tango and Folklore around the world. They have a rich dance background and began performing at an early age, meeting when they were dancers in the Carlos Copes tango company in Buenos Aires and later becoming a stage couple and marrying in 1984.
Los Ocampo divide their time between teaching at their schools around the world, touring widely and performing at prestigious international venues. They are also official adjudicators at the annual International Tango Championships in Argentina and other international competitions. They are often engaged as cultural and artistic ambassadors for Argentine music and dance. Los Ocampo are masters not only of Argentine Tango but also of Argentina’s folkloric dances, such as Chacarera, Zamba and Malambo.
Class on 1930s-style Tango
The class is for around 1.5 hrs with a break on early 1930s milonguero style tango. This will be followed by a quick reminder class of ‘Chacarera’ of around 25 min. Milonguero is a close embrace style of tango influenced by the heavily visited and highly popular milongas at the time (so small amount of space to dance). The Chacarera is an Argentinian Folklore dance that will be explained in a separate article on this website soon, watch this space! During milongas, it is sometimes danced in between tandas as a light-hearted break from the tango.
Private tuition available
There are slots of an hour before or after this Saturday event for private tuition suitable for couples. If you are interested in booking a private class please ring Tony Lane on 020 75383852.
