Our regular Tango E14 programme continues almost every Saturday, usually 1 – 5pm. Entry £7 when we do not have guest teachers, and takes place in St Johns Community Centre 37-39 Glengall Grove, London E14 3NE.
Our Tango E14 outlook aims to be inclusive and to help everyone to discover and enjoy real Argentine Tango as a social dance. We also want to help you discover and develop the art of communication through partner dance, which we believe to be at its peak in Argentine tango. Therefore we encourage questions and share ideas relevant to Tango.
We provide free tea and coffee, and people often bring snacks to share.
When we do not have visiting teachers our programme usually is:
1:00 – 1:45pm Basics
We start with structured and progressive material on basics, including relevant exercises to help develop one’s inbuilt abilities, ‘muscle memory’, and fitness necessary to do common Argentine tango movements. We include many well known and popular dance sequences, whilst emphasising the main points of connection and improvisation.
1:45 – 2:30pm Developing Skills & Sequences
We often progress by following or developing the areas of immediate interest as raised by those present. In other words the latter part of the class can become more personalised tutorials.
2:30 – 5:00pm Practica / Milonga
Our relaxed practica / milonga (social dance / practice time ) playing your requests, mainly ‘Golden Age’ tango.
Anita van de Watering is a qualified Dance Teacher. Tony Lane started Argentine tango in 1995, and has been teaching it for over 15 years. He has taught it in China and New Zealand, as well as London.
‘Tango E14’ has been in existence since 2009. The main purpose of it is to help people to discover what Argentine tango is all about, to enjoy it, and to find their own Tango. We aim to have visiting teachers about once a month where that is possible.
