Saturday 18th October Anita and Tony teaching as usual on ochos and giros in an unusual location: Island House Community Centre, just 6 min walk from our usual venue St John’s Community Centre.
This Saturday 18th October there is an Island History Trust Open Day in St John’s Community Centre, hence Tango E14 has been diverted and taking place in another hall; the main hall of Island House Community Centre in Roserton St, London E14 3PG. It is about 6 min walk from our usual venue St Johns Community centre or 7 min from Crossharbour DLR! So it is really close and an exciting adventure as we have never been in that hall before, if all goes well, it is likely we’ll return. If you would like to walk with Anita please be at Crossharbour DLR station at 12.40pm!
Class on ochos and giros
The first half to the class is going over tango basics and essential grounding and technique such as ochos, forwards and backwards. And both following and leading. How do it with and without a sidestep and on both sides and both directions (forwards and backwards). For those unfamiliar, ocho means 8 in Spanish and refers to pivot turns on one leg done by mainly the follower and lead by the leader however both can also dance ochos at the same time. Furthermore, the 8 refers to the pattern the dancers will make on the floor whilst performing this step.
For more advanced dancers we will spend time after that, during the second half of the lesson, on giros or turns in Spanish. This pattern is often a precise pattern that commonly danced by the follower around the leader however both ways is possible. Also, several other decorations and/ or tango principles (e.g. saccadas, ganchos) are possible once you have mastered this tango basic, the giro.
