This week Saturday 29th April at ‘Tango E14’ is a normal afternoon with Tony and Anita teaching.
1 – 2.30pm Rhythm changes in simple choreography.
Todays class is all about changes of rhythm. Can we change rhythms together? Can we do different rhythms to each other? Come and find out.
A simple example is where the follower is led an ocho at a particular speed or rhythm, but the leader might do the same rhythm, or a slower stepping rhythm, or at a faster rhythm than the partner. There are lots of possibilities, but it boils down to each of us understanding, feeling, and knowing exactly where we are in our own bodies, with our partners, and in the music.
Of course we will recap basic ocho technique, but move quickly on to refine how we handle the finer points. We will teach you a choreographic framework to build on, and once you are confident with it, the next step is to play with it.
Learning and developing ones Tango skills is a long process. You have to do it, and do it regularly. It is also helpful if one has an open and co-operative mindset, rather than an exclusive or elitist one. A huge range of people over a long period of time, from all sorts of backgrounds have discovered, danced and developed Argentine tango. It continues to grow and develop today. So make a little effort to give yourself to ‘Tango’ and let ‘Tango’ into your soul. We are all on a Tango road of discovery.
