This Saturday 30th March 2024 we will have a class on different rhythms danced by the follower and leader but somehow together. Here is a challenge ! How can we dance together doing different interpretations of the music? How can a couple dance together doing different things, but keeping synchronised with each other?
We are getting to the essence of Argentine Tango. This simple statement: ‘Dancing together, to the music, in the space available, respecting the others around us’ is a good start. Then we have the realisation that tango music has different things going on at the same time, and we have freedom to interpret it as we like. When you look at a room full of Argentine tango dancers they are all doing different things! So, today Tony will help you look at some simple figures and ideas, and see if we can start to ‘play’ a bit more, and see how we can actually do rhythmically different things together. One obvious thing is ‘decorations’, but then we still have to ‘listen’ to our partner so that we are still dancing together!
There is still the question of leader, follower, and connection in this relationship. This class will provide challenges for both experienced dancers as well as beginners. So we also encourage dancers to try both leading and following. We are experimenting with knowing precisely where we are, individually and as a couple, and how we are moving together to the music in the space available.
This class is aimed at being suitable for all levels. We will all benefit from a mix of abilities working and exploring together. Sometimes our classes are a little bit ambitious, but it doesn’t hurt to ‘stretch’ yourself a little bit. This Saturday 30th March with Tony: (Note – Anita is away for 2 weeks.)
