
Saturday 1st and 8th of March Tango E14 is celebrating Let’s Dance Day to introduce newcomers to tango! If you have friends you would like to try tango these 2 weeks is the chance to let them try for free! No more excuses! With class suitable for complete beginners. Alongside at the same time we will be running a more advanced overview class for those that are more experienced. Or join your friend for support. It is up to you!
The class will be an introduction to Argentine Tango and a separate class for those that are more experienced. The more advanced class is an overview of all tango style and technique features. The introduction class will be on embrace and walking to the music.
Improvers class is an overview
SUMMARY of the key features of Tango that we will use as a checklist for the more advanced class; It is a good way to assess yourself to see where you are at and what gaps you have in your skills and or knowledge. (have a pen ready 😉 Check where you feel confident and cross where you feel you might need some more knowledge and or skill. If you have any questions or gaps we can go over it on Saturday.
The checklist includes:
- Classical Tango Music of the Golden Age of Tango (1930s-50s).
- Connection / embrace.
- Walking technique, and in time with the music.
- Parallel and Cross systems.
- Posture, Axis, and knowing where your weight is, and your partner’s weight.
- Dissociation.
- Leading and following.
- Ochos (Figure eight movements).
- Paradas
- rocking, cunita
- Giros (Movement around one’s partner).
- Changing speed, to include regular steady movements on the beat, slow movements at say half speed, and quick movements at say twice or three times the regular speed.
- Line of dance, rules of the road (tango codigos), courtesy and customary behaviour (or etiquette).
- Musicality: Tango, Milonga and Tango Vals.
- Important differences between Argentine Tango and Ballroom dancing.

Getting here
Take the Dockland’s Light Rail (DLR) to Crossharbour station. At the foot of the station stairs, cross Eastferry Road at the pedestrian crossing, then keep going straight ahead as you are on Glengall Grove. The hall is 150 metres down on the right.
Buses 277, 135, D6 and D8 will take you to the ASDA store at Crosshabour. Walk along the path on the right of the Health Centre car park, this takes you directly to Glengall Grove and St John’s Community Hall.
