This Saturday 23rd March 2024 we continue our second week on ‘Parallel and Cross systems’. This is a fundamental skill and understanding in Argentine Tango, and gives rise to an amazing range of possibilities. We know the simple concept of walking ‘In Parallel’, where the couple are walking together. The leader going forwards with say his left foot, the follower steps back with her right foot. Or, leader forward right, and follower back with the left.
In the ‘Cross’ system the leader has changed foot, so that as he steps forward on his right foot he is leading his partner to step back on her right foot. Yes, we know that. But what is happening when we create ‘ochos’, ‘giros’, and other moves? Can we do various moves on one leg, or do the same or similar on the other leg? Then there is the question of leader, follower, and connection in this relationship.
This class will provide challenges for both experienced dancers as well as beginners. We also encourage dancers to try both leading and following. We are experimenting with knowing precisely where we are, individually and as a couple, and how we are moving together to the music in the space available.
Realise how slight changes to a lead or a response can produce many different movements or outcomes.
This class is aimed at being suitable for all levels. We will all benefit from a mix of abilities working and exploring together.
