This Saturday 3rd of May Tony and Anita are teaching together as usual, starting with Pilates and other exercises to increase your fitness for tango, followed by Tony’s sequence Baldosa and timed in tango, milonga rhythm as well as vals mixed in with a sprinkling of traspié!
If you are still unfamiliar with Los Ocampo (Monica Romero and Omar Ocampo), they are world famous dancers and teachers, not only of Tango, but also Argentinean and South American Folk dances. Please see last week’s post for more information on these world renown maestros of tango and judges of the world tango competition in Buenos Aires every year in August. Last week Monica and Omar started to teach us about the relationship and links in music and movements between Candombe (a related dance style to tango, but much earlier) and Milonga. Candombe was danced over 150 years ago by African slaves in Argentina and Uruguay, and is considered to be an early ingredient in the mix that led to Tango.
For new insights and dance moves do come and learn from these warm and welcoming teachers when we have them.
Class on the Baldosa
Tony and Anita would like to pick up from the material that Los Ocampo gave us last week relating to Candombe and Milonga, and see if any of that carries into Tango or Tango Vals. With Los Ocampo last week, one of the exercises was a Baldosa(a six step box) with some variations, notably traspié.
Can we dare to play with our partner within the music? We do really have to listen to the music and feel it. We absolutely have to find a really good connection to our partner.
What else ?
This could all go very wrong, so we need to give it our best attention. Stretch yourself. Experiment. If you push a little bit beyond your current ability, you might possibly gain something.
We will be having Los Ocampo back next week, Saturday 10th May, to take us a bit further with Milonga-Traspié. So we don’t wish to lose this knowledge and skill, but build on it.
Private tuition available
There are slots of an hour before or after this Saturday event for private tuition suitable for couples. If you are interested in booking a private class please ring Tony Lane on 02075383852.
