Saturday 25th January 2025 at Tango E14 a lovely afternoon of class followed by milonga with Tony and Anita. This week they are teaching a class on varieties of calesitas and molinetes.
Last week we looked at Molinetes and Ochos. So we will continue with variations on molinetes and or calesitas from there. As well as basic tango technique and exercises on interchanging between cross and parallel systems smoothly. In order to dance well you will need an understanding and skill in dancing in parallel and cross systems and how to change from one to the other and back again.
Class on calesitas/ molinetes
Last week we looked at Molinetes and Ochos. So we will continue with variations on molinetes and or calesitas from there. In order to lead these and ochos you need understanding and skill in walking and dancing in parallel or in cross systems, and being able to change quickly and smoothly from parallel to cross or from cross to parallel.
The leader needs to know, and feel, and understand where their weight and axis is at all times, and where it is going, or where it could go. They also must develop the sense and feeling of where the follower’s axis, weight, free leg, momentum and movement are. Also leader needs to be aware and or know how the leader and follower dance together. How the movements work together.
To dance smoothly together the follower needs to be aware of where their weight and axis are. Do they have a free leg? Is it moving, and how it is moving. But they must refrain from anticipating or thinking “Aha! I know what is coming next”, and doing anything before it is led. For advanced followers you can suggest movements in a subtly and appropriate way. As well as decorate whenever it is not interrupting the flow of your dance together however for this you need to have a musical ear and dance ability to dance within the phrasing of the music and have understanding and ability to dance several tango rhythms.
